Oppo electric car to be launched in India by 2024: Reports – Times Now

That electric vehicles are starting to take off in India is not exactly news. However, this slowly, but surely, growing demand for electric vehicles in the country has garnered attention of EV manufacturers old and new. In fact, the pace at which EVs have made progress here has also garnered the attention of Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo which is planning to foray into the world of electric vehicles. Of course, the news of Oppo’s possible entry into the world of electric mobility is interesting news; however, what is even more intriguing is that the company is planning to launch its electric vehicles in India by either end of 2023 or early 2024. According to a 91mobiles report, Oppo has already been working on EV plans for India and expects the EVs to arrive max by 2024. Unfortunately, the report does not mention precisely the type of EVs the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is planning to introduce in the country.
It must be noted that Oppo is not the first or the only non-automotive company to take aim at the EV space. A variety of new start-ups as well as other smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Apple, Huawei, etc. are working to earn themselves a share of this clearly lucrative space. Global behemoths such as Google, Apple, Xiaomi, and Huawei too are working on their own electric vehicles though details about the launch timelines for their EVs continues to remain scarce.
Considering Oppo would be a novice in the EV space, it would be interesting to see precisely how the smartphone company intends to take on the challenge of making electric vehicles. That reminds us, reports emerged earlier this year that Oppo had already started work on manufacturing plans for its EVs and that Tony Chan, Oppo’s CEO, has met companies that manufacture batteries and supply other parts for Tesla.
