Kohima: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Coordination Centre of the Planning & Coordination Department on Monday launched the second edition of the Nagaland for Green Christmas campaign.
The campaign focuses on mobilizing Nagaland residents to celebrate a sustainable and environment-friendly Christmas.

“Nagaland for Green Christmas is the need of the hour for our state primarily because while it is the most wonderful time of the year, it’s not the most environmentally friendly,” it said.
Suggesting that a state-wide sustainable and eco-friendly Christmas can be hosted, it suggested that from the type of tree that is purchased to the food, all things – no matter how big or small – can make a huge difference.
The key is to incorporate small changes and considerations into the normal routine- consider the items that are bought, how it can be used, and how it can be disposed.
As part of the campaign, SDG Coordination Centre has opened up the ‘Green Christmas Contest 2021′, applications for which will be till December 25. It informed that the theme for this year’s contest is ‘Minimalism’, involving celebrations to the maximum by using minimum and locally available resources.
All Nagaland residents are eligible to apply. The contest will require participants to send in 1-5 photographs and one video of not more than a minute to showcase the best practices of how a Green Christmas is being celebrated. The same is also advised to be shared on social media platforms with #NagalandForGreenChristmas #NagalandForSDGs.
