More Amazon jobs coming to Arizona: Company announces tech center expansion near ASU in Tempe – The Arizona Republic

Amazon, already Arizona’s third-largest private-sector employer, announced plans Tuesday to create another 550 jobs over the next few years at its expanding metro Phoenix technology center in Tempe.
More than 400 of the jobs are currently available at the center. Applicants can apply at amazon.jobs.
The new roles will support Amazon operations in consumer retail, web services and operations and include software development engineers, senior solution architects, project managers and business analysts.
“Not only do Phoenix and Tempe have an incredible existing talent pipeline, but this is a place where people want to move to as well,” said Doug Welzel, site lead for Amazon’s Phoenix Tech Hub, in a prepared statement. “We’ve already created more than 5,000 corporate and tech jobs in the Phoenix area, and we are excited to continue investing here.”
Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, said the expansion reflects Arizona’s “highly skilled and growing workforce as well as our premier attractiveness for technology and innovation.”
The  Amazon investment is the latest of a slew of technology expansions in the East Valley that include GoDaddy’s decision to relocate its headquarters in Tempe, Intel’s planned $20 billion expansion in Chandler and a new Facebook data center going up in Mesa.
Such investments “will continue to help Tempe attract more businesses and tech talent to our city,” said Tempe Mayor Corey Woods.
Amazon counted 32,000 Arizona jobs in this year’s Republic 100 ranking of the largest nongovernmental employers in the state, trailing only Banner Health and Walmart. Amazon’s latest Arizona employment count more than tripled compared to the year-earlier ranking in 2020.
Amazon signed on for a 63,000-square-foot expansion at its existing offices at 100 S. Mill Ave., just west of the main ASU campus. The expanded office space is expected to open for employees in late 2022. Amazon currently has more than 5,000 tech and corporate employees working at its Phoenix Tech Hub.
As part of its recruitment and hiring efforts at the Tempe facility, Amazon officials cited two programs:
Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 32,000 full- and part-time jobs in Arizona and invested more than $16 billion across the state including in fulfillment centers, Whole Foods Market locations and the Phoenix Tech Hub.
