Toyota has a lot of exciting stuff line up for launch in India: there are a handful of facelifts, a 7 seater rival for the Kia Carens, etc. One of the most important vehicles in this mix of upcoming Toyota cars in India is an all-new sub-compact SUV. Yep, the Japanese automaker is working on a brand new compact SUV to take on established players in the segment, such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, etc. This upcoming SUV, codenamed Toyota D22, will be developed in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki, under the purview of the global Toyota Suzuki alliance. Maruti Suzuki’s version of this upcoming SUV in India has been reportedly codenamed Maruti Suzuki YFG.
Toyota D22, a part of the automaker’s endeavour to overhaul its portfolio in the country, will share not only the platform but also the engine options with its Maruti Suzuki counterpart. Interestingly, this will be the extent of the similarities between the two upcoming SUVs in India. What that means is that the design as well as the interiors of the Toyota D22 SUV and the Maruti Suzuki YFG SUV will be distinctive.
So, when can we expect the Toyota’s all-new compact SUV to be launched in India? The automaker has obviously offered absolutely no information or details about the launch date, but the general consensus in the market appears to be that the SUV will become available for retail here some time during festive season 2022, most likely close to Diwali 2022.
