Touted as the alter ego of its conventional model, the British luxury car manufacturer Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited has launched the Black Badge variant of its newest uber-opulent sedan – the Ghost. The Black Badge Ghost has been launched at a price of Rs 12.25 crore in India, although this is not the actual ex-showroom price of the vehicle. The ex-showroom price of the Black Badge Ghost will be revealed by the company after the customers have completed their commissioning process.
Introduced as the purest Black Badge motor car in the marque’s history, the Black Badge Ghost has been said to be the most technologically advanced Black Badge motor car yet. The British luxury marque’s Black badge lineup of cars focuses more on a younger audience in the world of select Rolls Royce customers. And Following the success of the Black Badge models like the Wraith and Ghost launched in 2016, followed by Dawn in 2017 and Cullinan in 2019, this newest iteration of the Ghost is no different.
On the exterior, the new Black Badge Ghost utilizes the regular Ghost models body and design but has been elevated to the Black Badge standard by adding aesthetically differentiating cues. The BB Ghost can be commissioned by Rolls Royce in 44,000 ‘ready-to-wear’ colours, however, the marque can paint the vehicle in any shade of colour that their customers desire. Rolls Royce said that a majority of the Ghost models in their history have been ordered in the colour black so, the company has created the purest black for the new BB Ghost that takes about 45kg of paint with the addition of two layers of clear coat.

The new Black Ghost also gets the optional high-contrast, hand-painted Coachline along with the traditional Rolls-Royce hallmarks such as the high-polished Spirit of Ecstasy and Pantheon Grille. The model also gets a set of bespoke 21-inch composite diamond-cut alloy wheels finished with the marque’s infamous floating hubcap, that ensures the double R monogram remains upright at all times.
Meanwhile, on the interior, the new BB Ghost gets a similar surrounding cladded with luxury materials that have been the British carmaker’s forte for the past decades. However, the Black Badge model does get a complex but subtle weave of deep diamond pattern in carbon fibre trim to differentiate it from the regular sedan. The model also gets a black Bolivar veneer on the dashboard and around the interior along with darkened air vent surrounds and other darkened interior trims which otherwise would have been chrome. The interior also gets a subdued chrome finished clock in the centre with only twelve, three, six and nine o’clock markers pointed out. The BB Ghost also gets the signature Rolls Royce Shooting Star Starlight Headliner.
Powering the new BB Ghost is the same 6.75-litre V12 engine that comes in the regular Ghost but has been tweaked to provide an additional 29 PS and 50 Nm of torque, resulting in a total power output of 600 PS and 900 Nm of torque. Bespoke gearbox and throttle treatments were also added to the powertrain to help the engine’s improved power reserves. Depending on throttle and steering inputs, the ZF eight-speed gearbox and both front and rear-steered axles work together to modify the amounts of feedback to the driver.
