Virginia Tech got its fourth and highest-ranked offensive line commitment in the 2023 class Saturday morning when Layth Ghannam, the top-ranked player in West Virginia, announced he’ll play for the Hokies.

Ghannam is ranked No. 436 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, making him the highest-ranked commitment in the Hokies’ class to date. He joins Gabriel Arena, Lance Williams and Hannes Hammer as commitments for new offensive line coach Joe Rudolph.

Ghannam, who attended the Hokies’ spring game in April and met with Tech alum and NFL All-Pro Wyatt Teller, had a final four of Virginia Tech, West Virginia, North Carolina and NC State. Though he's a three-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings, On3.com lists him as a four-star.

The 6-foot-5, 280-pounder plays at George Washington High in Charleston, West Virginia, and is the state’s second highly ranked offensive lineman to pick Tech in the past few years, joining Doug Nester (No. 2 in the state) in 2019, though Nester would later transfer to his home-state Mountaineers.

Ghannam gives the Hokies a total of nine commitments in the 2023 class, which now ranks 26th in the 247Sports Composite.
