Georgia Tech to Play at Iowa in ACC/Big Ten Challenge – Georgia Tech

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech will visit Iowa in the 24th renewal of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, with the game taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. The 24th event, which consists of 14 ACC teams against 14 Big Ten teams in a battle for the Commissioner’s Cup, is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 28 through Wednesday, Nov. 30.
The annual matchup of Alliance rivals features 14 games which will air on ESPN’s networks and be available to stream via the ESPN app. Game times and broadcast networks will be announced at a later date.
Since the start of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in 1999, the ACC holds a 12-8-3 advantage in the event and is 144-121 in Challenge games.
This will be the second meeting between the Yellow Jackets and the Hawkeyes in the annual Challenge, following Iowa’s 85-67 win over the Yellow Jackets on Nov. 28, 2000 in Iowa City in the second year of the Challenge series. The all-time series is tied at a win apiece. Tech defeated the Hawkeyes, 79-78, on March 24, 2003 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in a second-round game in the post-season National Invitation Tournament.
Georgia Tech has a 9-12 mark in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and a 3-8 mark in Challenge games on the road. The Yellow Jackets lost at home to Wisconsin, 70-66, last season. Maryland, Purdue and Rutgers remain the only Big Ten teams the Yellow Jackets have not faced in the annual series.
Information on season tickets for the 2022-23 season is available here. More of Georgia Tech’s non-conference men’s basketball schedule will be announced in the coming weeks, while the Atlantic Coast Conference will announce the conference schedules for its teams in late summer.
The Yellow Jackets return eight letterwinners for head coach Josh Pastner’s seventh season on The Flats, including senior point guard Kyle Sturdivant (Norcross, Ga.) and senior center Rodney Howard (Ypsilanti, Mich.) who are Tech’s top two returning scorers. The Jackets’ core includes a trio of rising sophomores in Dallan “Deebo” Coleman (Memphis, Tenn.), Miles Kelly (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and Jalon Moore (Birmingham, Ala.) and junior point guard Deivon Smith (Loganville, Ga.).
Iowa won the Big Ten Championship last season, defeating Northwestern, Rutgers, Indiana and Purdue to win the conference tournament after finishing fourth in the regular season with a 12-8 record. The Hawkeyes lost to Richmond on the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to finish with a 26-10 overall record.
