On September 30, 1989, the first submarine built in India, the INS Shalki (S46), was launched by the Indian Navy. INS Shalki is a Shishukumar-class diesel-electric submarine, which was commissioned on February 7, 1992, and is still active in service. On the same day in 2003, Indian chess superstar Viswanathan Anand won the World Rapid Chess Championship, a world title recognised by FIDE (The International Chess Federation). Anand beat Vladimir Kramnik in an exciting two-game knockout final to win the tournament that had 11 of the 12 top chess players in the world as participants.
