By Sneha Saha: Jio has been working on an affordable laptop for the last few years. Now, the Jio laptop, dubbed Jio Book, is finally official. The company has unveiled the Jio Book laptop silently, but it isnt available to everyone in the country just yet. Now, what does that mean?
The Jio laptop is currently available for purchase on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), which means only government employees will be able to purchase it, for now. The listing was first spotted by 91Mobiles. The device is listed at a price of Rs 19,500, but this may not be the commercial price. In terms of design, the Jio Book offers a plastic build and there is a Jio logo on the lid.
The question is when will the Jio Book be available for everyone? Well, the company hasnt confirmed the official availability of the Jio laptop yet. Notably, the Jio laptop was showcased at India Mobile Congress (IMC) event 2022. This suggests that the laptop will be available for everyone very soon. Since Jio will launch 5G services for 4 cities this Diwali, we can expect the company to officially introduce the Jio laptop around the same time.
From GeM, only government employees will be able to purchase the Jio laptop for now. We assume that the laptop model thats available for everyone with the same set of specifications and price.
Reliance Jio says that the laptop is made in India. As far as the specifications are concerned, the Jio Book laptop comes packed with a 11.6-inch HD display with a 1366768 pixels resolution. The laptop is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor paired with Adreno 610 GPU for graphics. Now, since the Snapdragon chip is quite old, gamers may not get too excited with the new Jio Book. Well, neither is Jio really targeting the gamers out there. Given the specs and price, the Jio laptop is for students or first-time laptop users.
The Jio laptop is equipped with just 2GB of RAM, while the storage details are not clear right now. On the software front, the Jio Book is running on a custom version of the Jio OS. Some of the other features of the Jio laptop include — an HD camera, and some pre-installed apps including — a Microsoft Ad browser, and more.
Currently, the Jio Book is listed on GeM website for a price of Rs 19,500. As reported, the stocks are limited but the company is expected to refill the stock soon. The company hasn't revealed how much the laptop will be available for commercially.
