– FB Mondial Piega 125 debuts in Spain
– Powered by a 124cc, liquid-cooled engine
– Rivals KTM 125 Duke
The number of motorcycles in the sporty 125cc segment has grown in the last few years as they cater to newer riders while being accessible in terms of pricing and performance. Italian manufacturer FB Mondial entered that race with their Piega 125 a couple of months ago and is now offering the motorcycle in Europe.
The Piega name has been taken from FB Mondial’s flagship superbike that used a Honda V-Twin engine. And the 125cc model that has made its debut in Spain is designed by Rodolfo Frascoli, the man behind the design of the resurrected Suzuki Katana that we tested recently. So, radical styling is a signature. The FB Mondial Piega 125 sports a protruding headlamp cowl with vertically stacked LEDs. The rear end is clean and features a wheel-mounted number plate holder. Although, the most interesting part of its styling is the aero wings that the company says are functional and ‘gills’ that stand out on the shrouds.
Under the bodywork that looks like it walked back from the future, the FB Mondial Piega 125 comes powered by a 124cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that puts out 14.8bhp and 10.5Nm. In comparison, its biggest rival- the KTM 125 Duke churns out 14.5bhp and 12Nm. However, at 135kg, the Piega 125 is fairly lighter than the 125 Duke which weighs 159kg. That said, it rides on non-adjustable upside-down forks and a monoshock at the rear while braking is done by discs at both ends and a single-channel ABS. As for features, the Piega 125 comes with full-LED lighting and a colour TFT display.
The Piega 125 is an interesting two-wheeler and a fitting rival to the KTM 125 Duke. Now, FB Mondial did have its presence in the country for a brief period when it was sold here through Kinetic’s Motoroyale showrooms. But with no word about that collaboration for a good two years, the Piega 125 is also unlikely to make it to India.
