High-tech job openings in NC climb to new high, surge in Triangle – WRAL TechWire

RALEIGH – North Carolina companies across the state continue to defy all the so-called economic headwinds, posting technology job openings in October that set another record: More than 39,000.
The total reported in the new NC Tech Association monthly IT Job Trends Report of 39,162 tops the previous record of 39,090 set in May and is a jump from 37,738 from September.
“October 2022 IT job postings are up again. In fact, the monthly total is the highest for the year,” said Andrea Fleming, Director of Talent and Workforce Development at NC TECH.

“Headlines continue to mention layoffs and hiring freezes, but tech positions in North Carolina remain on an upward trajectory. Uncertainty is still looming, but at the moment, IT postings for US and NC are holding strong.”
Fleming noted recent comments from NCSU economist Dr. Mike Walden: “The job market continues to defy a recession.”
The job openings run counter to North Carolina’s unemployment rate which rose again in October.
The October total also is more than 5,000 higher than October 2021.

Advertised job postings increased in almost all North Carolina’s metro areas, spreading the wealth of opportunity.
The Charlotte metro led with 14,7222.
However, combined the Triangle led with nearly 16,000, with Raleigh’s 21% year-over-year increase at 12,318 leading the way.
