Junior Dimitri Sime put on a show Friday night to power the Lowell Catholic boys basketball team to a 76-59 victory over Shawsheen Tech.
Sime was a force all over the court, finishing with 28 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Also starring for the Crusaders were senior Sean McNamara with eight points, six rebounds and four assists, and freshman Collin Charbonneau with nine points, three rebounds and a steal.
Shawsheen fell to 2-1 with the loss.
Innovation 58, Nashoba Tech 34: The Hawks were terrific defensively, recording 14 steals in the win over Nashoba. Junior Derrick Twum had a terrific all-around game with 26 points, six rebounds and three steals. Junior Sam Horace added six points, five assists and four rebounds for Innovation Academy (2-0).
Clinton 71, Littleton 35: Homecourt advantage wasn’t enough for the Tigers as they fell to Clinton. Leading Littleton (0-2) with 12 points was Jason Mansour, while Maxwell Smith netted nine points.
Lowell 76, Billerica 55: The Red Raiders got their offense untracked and were able to run past their MVC opponent in Billerica. Senior guard Javian Kirmil came out shooting and finished with a team-high 23 points. Senior guard Jonathan DeJesus added nine points. Junior guard Juan Beltres Diaz was also terrific with nine points and four assists.
Sophomore guard Tzar Powell-Aparicio contributed 10 points, four steals and five assists for Lowell.
North Andover 60, Chelmsford 48: Despite an impressive performance from freshman guard Magezi Nkugwa, the Lions dropped the MVC contest. Nkugwa showed poise in leading the Lions with 15 points. Senior swingman Chris Brothers chipped in 10 points.
Pinkerton 64, Alvirne 44: The Broncos trailed 15-7 at the end of one quarter and could never catch up as the Astros claimed the NHIAA victory in Hudson, N.H.
Wakefield 60, Wilmington 26: The Wildcats had no answer for stopping Wakefield’s Emma Shinney, who scored a game-high 28 points, in the Middlesex League clash.
Greater Lowell 49, Mystic Valley 17: The Gryphons easily picked up their second CAC Large Division win of the season. Briannah Namale led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Mariah Lorenzo also reached doubles with 10 points, while Kendra O’Brien and Felicia Melendez added nine and six points, respectively, for GLT (2-0).
Littleton 52, Clinton 10: The Tigers remained perfect on the young season in impressive fashion. Leading a balanced scoring attack with 13 points was Victoria McCoy. Emily Mizzoni sank 11 points, while Kate Allen contributed eight points for Littleton (3-0). The Tigers kept Clinton scoreless in the second and third quarters.
Shawsheen 46, Lowell Catholic 39: Lindsay McCarthy powered the Rams past Lowell Catholic as she poured in 21 points before a big crowd to watch Shawsheen’s home opener in Billerica. Fellow captains Kiley McFadden and Kerry Brown also starred. McFadden was an all-around standout with eight points and nine rebounds, while Brown keyed a solid defensive effort.
Notre Dame 54, Greater Lawrence 23: Sarah Freitas and the Lancers won their second consecutive game. Freitas led the Academy of Notre Dame with 19 points and 11 steals. Playing a terrific all-around game was Brielle Hardy, who collected six points, eight steals, five rebounds and four assists.
North Andover 53, Lowell 29: North Andover proved to strong for the Red Raiders during the MVC battle. Senior forward Lacey Pare was the lone player in double figures for LHS with 10 points, while sophomore forward Emerson Webb added seven points.
Billerica 46, Tewksbury 30: In a MVC defensive battle, the Indians of Billerica had enough offense to pull away from Tewksbury.
Chelmsford 107, Central Catholic 64: The Lions won all three relays and roared to the MVC victory. Senior capt. Jack Dorsey won the 200 free in 2:08.88 and was part of two relays wins. Freshman Connor Moore had his first high school win, capturing the 200 IM in 2:24.94, and was part of two relay victories. Junior Jociah Kautz also won the 50 free in 24.63 and was on two winning relay teams.
Bennett Prees won the 1-meter diving (205.4 points) and qualified for North Sectionals for Chelmsford (2-1, 1-0 MVC). Also winning events were Henry Reitman (100 free,54.03), Nate Gabriel (100 fly, 1:09.22) and Declan Hughes (100 back, 1:04.19). Central fell to 0-1.
Tewksbury 129.45, Dracut 116.3: The Redmen collected the Merrimack Valley Conference victory over Dracut. Sparking Tewksbury was Amanda Ogden, who captured the all-around with a score of 36.45.
