The Chetak electric scooter is Bajaj’s first EV and was launched in India back in 2020. Now, the brand is looking to launch the Chetak in Europe by early 2024.
The European continent is aggressively promoting electrification and has even announced the end of production for ICE-powered vehicles in a decade. Hence, Chetak’s expected launch announcement comes at the right time. While sales in India haven’t been the most impressive due to supply chain issues and the global shortage of semiconductor chips, we can expect Bajaj to resolve these challenges by the end of 2023.
Moreover, with a styling that is retro-esque, which seems to be the flavour of the season, the Chetak electric scooter sets itself apart from the futuristic designs that overflow the market. That said, the Chetak electric scooter sold internationally is unlikely to be altered from the Indian-spec model. It uses a 3.8kW electric motor that draws power from a non-removable 3kWh IP67 lithium-ion battery pack and propels the scooter to a top-speed of 70kmph. Charging the 3kWh battery pack takes about five hours and offers a range of 90km in Eco mode.
In India, the Chetak electric scooter is priced from Rs 1.54 lakh and goes up against the TVS iQube, OLA S1 Pro and Ather 450X.
